Recordamos los 102 años de la fundación del legendario Club Atlético “Pompeya” de Escobar

Algunos vecinos de nuestro pueblo, descendientes de aquellos pioneros deportistas, conservan en la actualidad, en su poder, algunas de las copas y trofeos que permanecieron en las vitrinas de la entidad ya desaparecida. Por Alfredo Melidore (*).

En un frío y destemplado 10 de junio de 1919 – hace 102 años – se fundaba en Escobar, por iniciativa de los jóvenes y emprendedores hijos de este paraje, amantes del fútbol: Pedro Cabrera – “Poroto” – , José María Blois, Adolfo Deambrosi y Pedro Paulo Seminari – “Pedrito” – el Club Atlético “Pompeya”, utilizando como emblema para sus casacas, los colores verde y blanco ( 1 ).

El Club Atlético “Pompeya”, tuvo su sede social a una cuadra de la plaza del pueblo, ya que se ubicaba, en parte de la antigua edificación, que aún se conserva en la esquina de Edilfredo Ameghino y Asborno (ver foto tomada por Alberto Ranne en 1992).

Este emblemático edificio era propiedad del inmigrante Fernando Berrogain ( 2 ), a quien se lo alquilaban los muchachos que dieron vida a esa antigua entidad, que además de dedicarse a la práctica del fútbol, tenían una subcomisión de fiestas y otra de cultura, en la cual crearon una biblioteca pública, que funcionó durante casi una década.

Anualmente celebraban su aniversario con una cena y posterior baile.

Al existir por esa época, solamente el Club Atlético Independiente de Escobar, se llevaban a cabo encuentros con equipos de otros lugares.

Por 1925, “Pompeya” obtuvo la copa “Senador César Díaz” – donada por ese conocido político conservador de la localidad – frente al equipo del Club “José Altube” de José C. Paz.

“Pompeya”, pese al empuje y a los logros deportivos y sociales de sus años primeros, se disolvió – lamentablemente -, antes de 1930, debido a que algunos de sus jugadores, emigraron a Independiente, y a las dos entidades nacidas posteriormente, el Club Sportivo Escobar (en 1924) y el Club Atlético Boca del Tigre (en 1927).

( 1 ) = Estos colores, cuatro décadas después, cuando ya no existía “Pompeya”, fueron utilizado por la selección de la Liga Escobarense de Fútbol, para identificar su casaca.

( 2 ) = El “vasco” Fernando Berrogain, fue uno de los numerosos inmigrantes que allá por finales de la década de 1870, se asentó en el recientemente creado poblado de “Belén”, que ya comenzaba a extenderse a los costados de la estación “Escobar”, perteneciente a la línea férrea, que unía Buenos Aires con Campana.-

Don Fernando, quien había sido un próspero comerciante, fue el dueño de varias propiedades en el centro del pueblo, muchas de las cuales, se ubicaban sobre la antigua Calle “Real”, y alguna de ellas, en cercanías de la plaza del poblado.
